The Short Version

Two Kinds of VR, One Clear Pick

Both put your crew in headsets. Underneath, they are built on two different ideas about what VR should feel like, and the gap is bigger than most people expect.

Arena

Free-Roam, Not Room-Scale

Walk freely across a 1,600+ sq ft arena instead of standing in a small private room.

8

Up to 8 Players Together

Keep the whole group in one game. Sandbox seats up to 6, so someone sits out or splits off.

South

Right Here in South Austin

Free-roam VR at Southpark Meadows, so there is no trek up to The Domain to play.

A Fair Word on Sandbox

We Will Be Straight With You

Sandbox VR is not a bad experience. Its full-body trackers, where you see your own arms and legs and your friends' avatars move in real time, look great and photograph even better. If that exact feeling is the thing you most want, you will enjoy it.

For us, the trade is worth it. We would rather give you a whole 1,600+ sq ft arena to move through, room for two more players, and less gear to strap on, right here in South Austin. Different priorities, and now you know both, so you can choose the night that fits your group.

Questions

Zero Latency VR vs Sandbox VR, Answered

What is the difference between free-roam and room-scale VR?
Free-roam VR, like Zero Latency, lets your group walk freely across a large arena, so the world feels like a place you are actually inside. Room-scale VR, like Sandbox VR, keeps play inside a smaller private room where you mostly stand and make shorter movements. More space means more real movement, and room for up to 8 players instead of 6.
Why should I choose Zero Latency instead of Sandbox VR in Austin?
It comes down to a few things: a bigger 1,600+ sq ft play area you physically move through, more players in one game (up to 8 versus up to 6), simpler gear (just a headset and controller, no body trackers to strap on), more ways to play (free-roam arena plus escape rooms, adventure games and axe throwing), and a longer history in free-roam VR (Zero Latency has run arenas since 2015). It is also right here in South Austin at Southpark Meadows, instead of up at The Domain. Both are great experiences, but for the most room to move and the biggest group game, free-roam is the pick.
How many people can play together?
Up to 8 players in a single shared free-roam game, which is part of why we are popular for birthday parties, group outings, and corporate team building. Group bookings start at 4 players and scale up to 24, and we also offer full private venue bookouts. Smaller groups and pairs are welcome too.
What else can we do besides the free-roam arena?
Plenty. Alongside the 1,600+ sq ft Zero Latency free-roam arena, we have VR escape rooms and one-hour VR adventure games in our Adventure Arena, plus Real Steel axe throwing for ages 18 and up. It makes a full night out, not just a single game.
Where are you located and when are you open?
Zero Latency South Austin is at 9900 S IH-35 Frontage Road, Suite M500, in the Southpark Meadows center next to Cinemark and Half Price Books. We are open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday 2pm to 10pm, Friday noon to 11:30pm, Saturday 11am to midnight, and Sunday noon to 10pm. Call (512) 982-4307 or book online to grab a session time.
